Your computer is not obsolete.

You would rather not buy a new computer when, like many people, you have trouble paying the rent. But you might have heard that Windows 10 will reach its "end of life" on October 14, 2025. That means that it will no longer receive updates and will not be safe to use online. And Windows 11 is not supposed to be installed on older computers. Fortunately there are several good options for you to try.

The most obvious thing to do is to purchase extended security updates from Microsoft. Microsoft will provide these for only one year for $30. Updates will be free for Windows 365 customers, but that costs at least $20 per month.

Under the FAQs tab at the top of this page I will discuss the other two options for computers that do not meet Microsoft's requirements for the installation of Windows 11. We can install Windows 11 with a legal hack, or we can use Linux.

Is it really worthwhile to repair your computer?

There are several good answers to that question.

Computers, especially laptops, cost a lot less than they did one or two decades ago. So the question might be asked, Why repair your computer when you could just buy a new one?

Your ten-year old computer might be a better piece of equipment than a new one, because the modern, inexpensive computer is not built to last.  Moreover, old laptops can be upgraded. A technician can install a better processor and more memory. Modern laptops achieved their fashionable, thin appearance by soldering those parts onto the motherboard. They cannot be upgraded.

Whether or not your old computer is worth repairing might depend upon the cost of the repairs. At ECONOFIX I offer an alternative to high-priced computer repairs, making it worthwhile to keep your present computer.
